Father-Son Talk with Danny Rateliff

Danny Rateliff · Zach’s dad · businessman · Texarkana

July 3, 2026 · 1 hr 49 min · ZRS 221

About this episode

Zach sits down with his dad. Danny Rateliff grew up in Hope, Arkansas, built businesses in Texarkana — including Danny Rateliff’s Hair Salon & Supply — and put Zach on real-estate bids at fifteen. He is a businessman, a Christian, and the man Zach still wants to be a good son to.

They talk about what conservatism actually conserves, why four generations on welfare is not compassion, and why the Bible — not the mood of the week — is the standard. Danny has read the Quran and the Bible. Jesus claimed to be God. That settles it.

The last stretch of the show is the wreck. Eleventh grade. Eggshell fracture of the skull. Fifty-fifty through the night. A pastor in a motel two days earlier: it is not God’s will that the boy dies. Fourteen days in a coma. Then Zach got up. If you have a dad, or you are one, this conversation is for you.

From the conversation

  • I’m doing great. Glad that you have me on. And I want to say thank you. Just proud of you for the success you’ve had.

    Danny

  • Jesus is the only way to heaven. He is the way, the truth, and the life, and no man gets to the Father but through Him.

    Zach

  • I own a Quran. I own a Bible. I’ve read the majority of both of those. Jesus claimed to be God. “If you’ve seen me, you’ve seen the Father.”

    Danny

  • What is a conservative? What is it to conserve? Keep your money. Don’t waste money.

    Danny

  • We have four generations of people that have been raised on welfare. Was this really to help — or have we just made voting plantations?

    Danny

  • If you don’t think the Lord can have a miracle, He can. I’ve witnessed it.

Show open from Church on the Rock. Then Zach brings his dad into the chair.

1:30 · Zach

Hello and welcome to The Zach Rateliff Show. I’m Zach. This is my dad. What’s up, Dad?

1:38 · Danny

I’m doing great. Glad that you have me on. And I want to say thank you. Just proud of you for the success you’ve had.

1:48 · Zach

That means so much.

3:20 · Danny

Hey, welcome you guys in the United Kingdom. We’re glad that we’ve had a lot of your citizens over here for the World Cup. Your media lies just like ours does.

4:40 · Zach

If you use the Bible as your standard, we can be more in agreement.

5:00 · Danny

I own a Quran. I own a Bible. I’ve read the majority of both of those. Jesus claimed to be God. “If you’ve seen me, you’ve seen the Father.”

5:20 · Zach

Jesus is the only way to heaven. He is the way, the truth, and the life, and no man gets to the Father but through Him. I want to be a good dad. I want to be a good son. That’s the filter.

7:00 · Danny

What is a conservative? What is it to conserve? Keep your money. Don’t waste money. Progressive means we’re making progress toward what end? Away from the Constitution, and away from the biblical principles. Communism became a bad word after they murdered 300 million people. Now we’re “progressive.”

8:40 · Zach

There’s nothing constitutional about taking money from people who work and handing it to people who choose not to. And there’s nothing biblical about it either. Jesus said the poor will always be with us.

9:10 · Danny

We’re commanded to help the orphans, the widows. But for the people that just choose not to work — that’s a different thing.

10:20 · Danny

Grew up in a small town in southwest Arkansas called Hope. Famous politicians from there: Bill Clinton. Mike Huckabee. I’ve owned several businesses. Had Zach bidding on real estate when he was 15, 16 years old.

18:00 · Danny

The small business in the United States produces 70 to 75% of the jobs. Every year I have business friends that say, “Oh, my CPA told me I made a million dollars this year, but I don’t know where it is.” The government’s sucking us out for 65–70% of our income. The top 1% pay 75%.

19:20 · Zach

I’ve used 10 different CPAs and I can get 10 different answers every time I do it.

22:00 · Danny

We have four generations of people that have been raised on welfare. Was this really to help — or have we just made voting plantations?

23:10 · Zach

I managed banks. Had a girl come in that she was 45 and a great-grandma. In 45 years, that’s four generations raised in the poverty mindset.

28:00 · Danny

Since the Great Society, we have spent enough money to purchase the Fortune 500 companies. Yet poverty is worse. It’s expensive to be poor. Interest rates are higher. You’re not going as far for gas. The crime rate is higher. Bars on the windows, bars on the doors.

36:40 · Danny

The Christian charities have done more for Haiti than any kind of voodoo. They’ll walk 10 miles through the ghetto to praise and worship.

42:00 · Danny

Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s house. Covet means envy. Anything in equity other than envy and coveting, which is a sin?

45:00 · Zach

You can divide up the pie. But look at the Titanic. If we put one or two more people on, the whole lifeboat sinks.

1:11:11 · Zach

I was a huge Tom Cotton fan when he came. The guy’s a war veteran, Ivy League educated, well spoken. I think he got to Washington and he got with the establishment people.

1:11:40 · Danny

He’s like, well, I might get to be the majority leader in 20 years and reign over what, Tom? The ashes of the burnt-down America.

1:12:10 · Danny

Do I agree 100% with Trump? No. But let me tell you what I do like about him. I like the locker-room talk, because I grew up in it. I like somebody that’ll talk a little trash to you. “Hey, we’re going to bomb the hell out of you.” Yeah — go ahead and let them know. Then he does it.

1:13:00 · Danny

I think she was a liberal and she just lied her way through confirmation. That tells you she was never on our team. And boy, hasn’t Roberts been a disappointment — put in by Bush. That wasn’t a very good choice.

1:14:20 · Danny

If you’re really a feminist, and you’re really for women, then why do you want men in women’s sports? I don’t think there’s such a thing as a feminist. What person that wants to empower women would want grown men in a women’s restroom? The feminist is a fake movement. It just means a radical atheist leftist that hates men.

1:16:00 · Danny

The choice wife should be able to negotiate the price of your field, run your business. A wife of noble character rises at sunrise and she works diligently. It’s very clear in the Bible. My wife certainly does. She’s the love of my life and the hardest-working woman I have ever known. She outworks me.

1:18:00 · Danny

We’re paying $300 billion a year to protect them to NATO. They’re sitting over there having three-hour lunches and getting eight weeks vacation. Trump’s saying, “Hey, you’re not going to support us. We’re going to bring our troops back.”

1:20:00 · Danny

The Republicans are the generals. Their job is to lose and make the Globe Trotters look good. The Democrats are the Harlem Globe Trotters. One big government bird. The uni-party.

1:22:00 · Danny

That whole thing was set up. Close to 275 federal agents in the crowd as instigators. Those people were singing God Bless America. That wasn’t a conservative trying to overthrow the government.

1:24:00 · Danny

Eleventh grade. Massive car wreck. Internal eggshell fracture of his skull. Fifty-fifty chance to live through the night. They put a bolt in his brain. If the pressure gets above 30, it fries your brain. He was at 30.

1:26:00 · Danny

A pastor two days prior: the boy’s name is Zach, and it’s not my will that he dies. You tell his dad he’s going to live and he’s going to walk out of that hospital. You have to know it like a lady knows that she’s pregnant. Believe the report of the Lord.

1:28:00 · Danny

He stayed in a coma. On the 14th day he got up. Doctors said he’d be blind, deaf, paralyzed. I called his name. He gave me a thumbs-up — that’s our family sign that everything’s good. The staff said, “Sir, you’re just an optimistic father. That arm did not move.” I said, by gosh, it did.

1:32:00 · Danny

They sent him to Baylor for brain rehab. He said, “Let’s stop.” He got up and walked into the ambulance. He told the doctors, “I was in a wreck and I hurt my head, but I’m okay.” If you don’t think the Lord can have a miracle, He can. I’ve witnessed it.

1:40:00 · Zach

Thank you, Dad. That’s exactly right. Thank you for that story.

1:41:20 · Danny

The Lord’s in control and you’re not. He can save you from your sins. Read John chapter 1. Read the Gospels. If you’ll say that prayer to God — Jesus, I believe in you. I believe that you died. I believe that you rose again, and I believe that you can save me from my sins — He’ll come and He’ll save you. The power that’s in me is greater than the power that’s in the world. And we will conquer this thing together as Americans and as Christians.

1:47:00 · Zach

Dad, thank you so much for your time.

1:47:08 · Danny

Thanks for having me. I hope God blesses each and every one of you.
